Avalon Just Acquired the Largest Tent Washing Machine in BC!
A tent washing machine, you ask…why? Well, when you have over 140,000 sq. ft of tenting and tent walls that need washing, that works out to 280,000 sq. ft (they have two sides!) of tent material requiring a minimum annual wash – but of course we want to be more thorough than that!
Up until now, if you can believe it, this job was done by hand, “the old wax on wax off method.” The work was tedious, time-consuming, as well as boring and monotonous. As you can appreciate, this repetitive labour was hard on our staff, especially as we want to maintain the high level of quality that Avalon Event Rentals has become so well known for in the Okanagan Valley.
After a few years of complaining, a lot of sore backs, and a ton of worn-out scrub brushes, Avalon Event Rentals decided to investigate options that could improve the quality appearance of our tents while simultaneously enhancing the work experience for our employees. After researching options, we chose the Charnecke Tent washing system because it is second to none - not only in its cleaning ability, but also its portability, low energy usage, water efficiency and eco-friendliness (water can be recycled and it uses less soap than competitors). With this machine, we could wash up to 2000 sq. ft. of tenting tops or walls per load in just one hour - imagine!
Just last week, we embarked on a 60-hour road trip to Charnecke Tents in Wisconsin to buy and receive training on our new machine. Jay and Jenny at Charnecke were fantastic to deal with, as a family-owned company that’s been in the tent business for over 80 years they knew their stuff. The whole experience was great, and we would highly recommend them.
